This Bank Holiday weekend would have seen the huge, colourful gathering that is Birmingham Pride. But will we let COVID-19 stop us celebrating diversity in our city? Heck no!
Today, thanks to the organisers of Birmingham Pride, we can still glitter up and enjoy a host of free, digital events!
All the events will be life streamed on the Birmingham Pride Facebook, Twitter and YouTube accounts. Entertainment will kick off at 2pm on Sunday 24th May 2020, with a Birmingham Digital Pride and will close with a virtual afterparty at ‘Gales (it’d be rude not to!).
Pride ‘attendees’ can expect appearances from stars including Kelly Rowland, Peppermint, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, SIGALA, Hannah Wants plus many more international and local LGBTQ artists, as well as key speakers.
Event organisers said: “We are overwhelmed by all the support and work from people behind the scenes, artists, key speakers and everybody involved in Birmingham Digi Pride!
“We ask that you donate through our GoFundMe to help us raise money for local LGBTQ groups and Charities that are struggling at this time.”
This weekend’s full pride event was cancelled due to COVID-19, with organisers initially hoping to reschedule the event for September this year.
However, last week, Festival Director Lawrence Barton announced that this year’s event will now not go ahead, with Pride returning on 22-23 May 2021.
